Low Turnout at the March for Europe in Edinburgh

Last year's losers finally woke up today that we are about to leave the European Union and about 500 of them turned out in central Edinburgh to protest.

The Guardian claims that over a thousand showed up, but as you can see from the above video of mine, the true figure was about half that. Still it was a good day for Miss Jean Brodie and her friends, and it was nice to see so many small children being taken along by their parents. I am sure that their Polish nannies appreciated the day off.

As you might expect, the prettiest girls around were put at the front to give the photographers something to snap.

This being Scotland, there were also a few blokes in kilts.

A few SNP people turned up, and more than one of the people that I remember from the 2014 independence campaign were heard to mutter that if they had organised things instead of leaving it to the bloody students things would have gone a lot better.

Tommy Sheppard MP was there, although he does look in this photo as if he wished he wasn't.

As was Deidre Brock, my own MP, who always manages to be courteous. Don't ask me who the kid in the cheap suit is 'cos I have no idea, but he seemed friendly enough.

The sun shone, the 500 had their march, and on Wednesday the 29th March 2017, Prime Minster Theresa May will formally notify the European Union that we are leaving.

Still, at least Miss Jean Brodie and her chums got a day out.

I think you will find that meaning fits the narrative of the left and organiser's of pro-EU demonstrations.

  8. 1,500 could not have walked past me in under four minutes. Watch the video, and that is all there was.
There might have been 1,500 at the rally, but that is still pretty piss poor, isn't it, on a nice day like today?

  10. This is stupid, because in Scotland there is no big need for a "March for Europe" as their government wants to break Scotland away from the UK and to rejoin the EU.

So they are quite calm and relaxed about it. They know they will be back in the EU very quickly.

  11. The video does not show less than half the claimed attendance of 1,000 people. From my assessment just of what is shown in the video, there were certainly more than a thousand people walking past the camera man. I suspect if I re-ran the video and actually counted the individuals it would number somewhere between 1,000 and 1,500. As I know from attending the London March yesterday and continuously taking photographs, there are always fair numbers of people who for one reason or another simply do not get captured on video or film.

    1. The cameraman was me and as I keep telling the various Federast types who wander along here, dick in hand, to try and pull holes in the report, it covers the whole march.

Now if you want to say that in your opinion there are more than 500 people walking past me, that's fine. My estimate is 500.

Even if you are right it is still pretty crap, and where are all the young people? Most of the marchers looked about my age.
